These days I mostly try not to write. My life is so full of work and family and weeding. But every now and then, my brain starts to itch and the only way to scratch that itch is writing. This is where you will find my most recent scratchings.

Mardi Gras: Not What You Think
Today is Friday. I’ve come back up for air after a major Mardi Gras takeover. Well, with my sister visiting too, there was lots to do and see. She was coming to the Big City from Small Town Alaska, and I know just how that is. I had to show her a good time. We ate loads of good food, including a food gorge/gasm at my fave funky, but fancy restaurant, Jacque Imo’s; chocolate croissants, berry brioche, Caribbean fried catfish with lime butter that changes my perspective on life, and lots more yummies at home. We took her to the…

Fear Not, Kind Readers
I got an email from a friend saying, and I’m paraphrasing here, ‘What the hell? Where are you? Why did you suddenly drop of the face of the earth? And, are you okay?’ I’m fine. All good here. My sister is visiting! I was going to post a Blog Recession Warning, but I ran out of time. As you may remember my main and often only chance to write is in the wee AM hours. Which depends on the Babe waking early. And the Toddler not waking early. So if you don’t hear from me, it could either mean I’m…

Good News for Half Beer Lovers
Surely I’m not the only mama who can hardly finish one beer anymore. While I would make an economical date (if Hubby and I ever got such a thing), I hate wasting half a beer. After this last Babe popped out, it still being hotter than hell here, I jubilantly went and bought myself a six-pack. Nothing satisfies at the end of a hot, mama day like a cold beer, right? Half a beer later, I put the bottle back in the fridge and wondered if dark beer would make a good beer batter. Then I remembered a recipe I’d…

Weaning from the Cursed Box
A spending challenge is always good practice, but the thing I’ve really been feeling I need to cut back on is computer use. I don’t begrudge myself the time I spend writing posts, this feels pretty healthy. A way of processing my life, which right now needs a lot of processing. But all the other bullshit I do out of pure addiction, the just wasting time stuff. I’ve really got to knock it off. Right now is my blessed moment between kiddos. The Babe of late wakes at 5:45. Ugh. But at least that gives me time to ogle him…

Inaugural No-Frills Wrap Up
Thanks for all those great comments, it’s good to feel like you’ve got company when the going gets crazy. Oh how our ‘close the door, mama’s screaming’ society does us a disservice! If only we really knew how mundanely normal our angst was! Alrighty. Back to our regularly scheduled program. Or something like it. You may remember my No-Frills Five wimpy ass challenge ended Friday. And how was it, you might inquire? Well, interesting… Being so wimpy, it was pretty darn easy. Only really noticed it a few times. But the times I did were illuminating. There were three separate…
