These days I mostly try not to write. My life is so full of work and family and weeding. But every now and then, my brain starts to itch and the only way to scratch that itch is writing. This is where you will find my most recent scratchings.

  • Groupies, Revisited

A few weeks ago I threatened to start a flickr group. Well, I’ve done it. It’s all over now. We’ll never get off the computer. Goodbye kiddos, hello even filthier house. No, really, I’m sure we’ll all be able to balance it nicely. We’ll be good. Really we will. I don’t expect this to be some epic ask your questions to the wide world forum. I just feel like I’ve made some friends through this here little blog-o-rama-rama-ding-dong, and I think it would be cool to be able to sit on the porch with y’all and chit-chit or bitch or…

  • The Whole Fam Damily

(I used to have a friend who, completely unrelated to the content of this post, often said “Well, siss on you pister, you and yer whole fam damily can go buck fufallos.” I just never got tired of it.) A few weeks ago I got a note from New Urban Habitat, that she’d chosen me as one of seven recipients of the Kreativ Blogger Award. I am honored, especially since she has a very impressive blogroll. I’m now supposed to divulge seven things about myself, and then pass the award along to seven other bloggers. I never have been much…

  • Food Recycling #1: Lickety Split Leftover Apple Pie

I’ve been thinking lots about food scraps lately. Specifically how to use them up. This topic is one of about 46 I have stocked up in my brain for future posts. And given all the pontificating about housewifery lately, I figured I’d better deliver some real life housewifing, and quick. So yesterday for dinner I made stuffing with old (homemade) bread and frozen-from-Thanksgiving turkey stock. For dessert I made the “special” apple pie I save up for and make once every few weeks out of old, abandoned, half finished toddler apples. Does that gross you out? Too bad, suck it…

  • Hello You Shy, Confused Feminist Housewife, You

About a year ago, when I was scheming my next writing venture, I sketched out ideas for a name on a scrap of paper. Apron Strings had been kicking around in my brain for some time, but I do love me a good subtitle, and I was really torn on whether to use the word “housewife.” Was the punk/DIY/feminist/liberal world ready for such a blasphemed word? I really wanted to see it reinvented, but could it be done? I have an unusual fondness for the word, precisely because it makes me (and everyone else I know) uncomfortable. I don’t particularly…

  • Radical Homemaking and Feminism

One of my devoted readers sent me a link ages ago that I only just now followed. Why did I waste so much time? It’s was an article in Yes Magazine by Shannon Hayes called Radical Homemakers and it is so, so right on with everything I believe. I went immediately to her site by the same name. The site looks pretty new, not much to it yet. But she’s got a book that I am wetting my pants to read. Oh boy! I do love me a good book. If you’re reading this blog, you will love her article.…
