These days I mostly try not to write. My life is so full of work and family and weeding. But every now and then, my brain starts to itch and the only way to scratch that itch is writing. This is where you will find my most recent scratchings.

  • Always Good for a Laugh

Oh god. Have any of you not scrolled down the sidebar until you saw the Food on the Food link, and then clicked on it? In case anyone answered no to that, go read this post now. She is unbelievable. Seriously always cracks me right the fuck up. Even when she got breast cancer she had me rolling. This woman could make a hilarious joke out of an old shoe and some rubber bands. And maybe dinner too.

  • Frillery and Summer Plans

I never did extend my No-Frills 5 to 7, weekend included. Too hard to give up our weekend spending treats. Too hard to even want to. But we’ll have plenty of time for weekends full of wholesome, creative, money-less activities this summer. Because, have I mentioned? We’re going home! We’ll be in our little coastal (read: cold and rainy) Alaskan town from mid-May through August. I’ll be working part time, cooking at a local lodge. My Man will be working part time doing the same paper-wrenching he did before law school came along. We’ll split the parenting, which is always…

  • Kid-Walks

We walk a lot. Mostly we walk to get from one place to another. Namely, from our house to 1. The grocery store 2. The Parenting Center 3. The park 4. The Children’s Library 5. The bakery for a berry brioche. I put both kiddlets in my beloved double stroller, and off we go. Often the Toddler asks to walk, and I let her out on the condition that she actually walk, as in keep walking. “We actually need…

  • Out Sick

Not me, as you know, I had this damn flu a couple weeks back. No, this time it’s the Babe. At least once he’s done, there won’t be any part of our family left to get it. He’s not throwing up, but has had a high fever, 103 at peak. He’s down to 101 now. Super cranky. So, not much time to even get the f***ing taxes done, or wash the mountain of dishes, or sweep the cock-roach bait out from under the table. Let alone write. Soon, grasshopper. Soon.

  • Of Comments, Readers and Gratitudes

Writing this blog, as I’ve mentioned before, is a purely selfish addiction. I can’t stop myself now. I need this outlet to digest my day to day. I think of post ideas constantly (like 2 or 3 a day!), and write volumes in my head while I’m pressure-washing puke out of carseats. Several of you have mentioned that my blog reads like a letter from a friend. Well, that’s about how it writes too. And let me assure you it is often eerie writing an intimate letter to a nameless number of (mostly) strangers. It’s a leap of faith to…
